Spring River flows east, mingling with the sea, where the bright moon rises over the tide.

Waves ripple for miles and miles, yet nowhere along the river is the moonlight denied.

The winding river skirts blooming shores, as moonbeams dapple woods like scattered hail.

In the empty air, frost seems to fly, on the sandy banks, it's invisible to the eye.

The river and sky merge, pure and clear, a solitary moon hangs in the atmosphere.

Who first saw the moon by this river’s side? When did it first light up a human’s night?

Generations come and go, endless the flow, each year the moon looks much the same.

Who waits for the moon along this river’s course? It flows past, while thoughts take their course.

One white cloud drifts far away, on the green maple shore, sorrow holds sway.

Whose small boat plies the waters this night? Where does longing gaze from the moonlit height?

Pity the moon lingering high above, mirrored perhaps in a lover’s mirror of love.

The jade curtain won’t roll away, on the pounding board, clothes brushed in its sway.

At this moment, we see but cannot hear, I wish to ride moonlight to you, my dear.

Geese fly endlessly, their light not gauged, below the water, fish and dragons write on the page.

Last night, in a dream, petals fell in a pond, halfway through spring, still not home.

Spring waters flow, but are not done, moon falls again towards the setting sun.

The slanting moon sinks into the sea of mist, the cliffs and rocks stretch on, a timeless twist.

Who rides the moon back home this night? The falling moon shakes feelings in the riverside light.
