However, slanderers and flatterers abound, while the virtuous and righteous remain silent. The honest are ashamed of their thriftiness, while the courtiers squander wealth. The remnants of the past lie in ruins, and chaos reigns in both capitals. Calamities befall us like dragons and snakes, while thieves run rampant. Days and months pass, yet there is no stability in governance. The reins of power shift unexpectedly, and achievements are like illusions. Therefore, in the eleventh month, I began to formulate strategies to present loyal advice. I fear that my words may appear rash and impulsive, drawing unwarranted criticism upon this virtuous court. I humbly submit that humor and frivolity, though entertaining, serve no purpose and only disrupt the affairs of the state. Honesty and sincerity are the hallmarks of a true gentleman, and should not be obscured by frivolity. As for the risks of war and the rewards of wealth and fame, they are not to be feared. I dare to offer my foolish advice, though it may be difficult to hear. Only by following the path of righteousness can we rebuild our foundation. We must repent for our past mistakes and strive for lasting virtue.
